What are some major differences in living conditions between American and Malaysian residents? Malaysia has yet to achieve first world country status so it could be classified as developing nation, but compared too many, it is a fast developing third world country. While on the other hand America is a first world country and a leading example world wide of the standard for developed countries. One major difference between the two countries is sanitation and pollution. Malaysia keeps a much lower standard of cleanliness; many businesses run in Malaysia would fail health and safety tests commonly administered in the United States. Malaysia has also yet to fix many pollution problems, some major projects of the future would include cleaning up the ocean around Penang Island and keeping the streets and small water sources clean. American law enforces the need for clean public areas, and water. It has become a standard for developed countries to have clean water and clean public areas for the use of the people. One thing that has to change in Malaysia is the attitude of everyday citizens, they have developed the mentality that some else will pick up after them. And this ideal leads to much litter and garbage pollution. Another problem is the government not making the effort to communicate this problem and to help pick up and repair the damage already made. A lot of garbage lays on the ground in a certain area for months without being touched, because everyone expected everyone else to pick up their mess.
Many impoverished Malaysians do not have access to the support that impoverished Americans have. The poverty line is also much lower in Malaysia than it is in the United States. When I lived in the United States my family actually lived below the poverty line, but we always made it by. Developed countries have support for their impoverished populations, but many undeveloped countries have little or no support. In Malaysia the poorest of the population gets almost no support from the Malaysian government. Malaysia still has a ways to go, and some very large projects to undertake before reaching first world country status; but I have loved living here and I will miss it greatly when I leave.

The first time I ever saw the Dalat campus I was six years old, I was with my family. My parents had moved our family across the world to work at a school called Dalat, and now we were going to see it for the first time. I first entered the campus by climbing over the sea wall, which at the time was more like a bench than a protective barrier. It was not a tall wall; I could look over it myself in my six year old body. I was with my family and we were being shown around by the school Chaplin his name was Mr. Bolback. We climbed over the sea wall and stood in the lower campus area looking around. We were down in front of the amphitheater, Mr. Bolback pointed down toward the chapel and explained that Tommy’s English room and his own office as well as the chapel and cafeteria were down that direction, but he didn’t takes us down there to look around. Instead he took us up the stairs that were in much better condition than they are today, and showed us where the gym and the weight room were located. I took a drink from the gym drinking fountain and it was there that I met some other staff children Lukas, Silas, Sam , were just a few, they were all older than me. Silas and Sam were brothers and their parents were the dorm parents at Jaffrey Dorm. Silas was tall and skinny like his dad, while Sam was shorter and plumpy, more like his mom. They both had blue eyes and blonde hair and it was apparent that they were brothers. Lukas on the other hand had brown hair and dark eyes, and his parents were the dorm parents of the chandler dorm. After we had met them, my family and I continued on toward the front gate. I saw the Dalat pool and I was happy to see that Dalat had a pool, the heat was unbearable and the pool’s depths looked so inviting. As we walked on the path, to the left I saw an almost empty lot, with one little building and a patio area, that also had a shack that covered the school vans to its far right. Mr. Bolback pointed toward the small building and explained that that was the kindergarten class; which was where I was going to be going to school in the fall. As we walked off the path and onto the street as the two met, we noticed that the road was not well paved, and my little brother, Kristian, tripped as we walked across the uneven surface. It wasn’t until the next year that the road was paved into its current state. As we walked toward the front gate Mr. Bolback showed us the main the office, as well as the elementary and high school areas which were right next to each other, on opposite sides of the main office. As we approached the front gate I noticed the front wall was really just a chain link fence which was abnormally tall. The guard had to come out of the shack that really was a shack, it was small, cramped and it had no air conditioning. The guard exited his shack and rolled the moving gate back to let us off the campus. I liked this new place, and I was excited to be a part of it, this place that would be such a huge part of my life to come.

The Masque of the Red Death is a frightening story that portrays one overpowering lesson that Edgar Allan Poe, the author, wished to communicate to his audience. This story is told from a narrator’s point of view, possibly someone who is the prince’s guest in the abbey. A plagued named the Red Death devastates the area, killing thousands of people everyday. In order to escape the plague, Prince Prospero (whose name ironically bears the meaning prosperous) takes one thousand of his friends and nobles from his courts deep into seclusion to one of his abbeys.
In the sixth month of seclusion the Prince Prospero, throws a masquerade party, in order to distract his guests from the plague that rages outside the abbey walls. The ball is held in a room with seven separate chambers of different colors (the number seven may be a reference to the seven deadly sins.) The seventh chamber is completely draped in black tapestries, and the windows are tinted crimson blood red. This chamber symbolizes the plague and death. Unlike any of the other chambers this one has a large ebony clock, this clock is the symbol of time in this story, the amount of time that the partygoers have left to live. This ebony clock chimes every hour, when this occurs the party stops for a brief moment of sadness, and they listen to the gonging of the clock that seems to bear death in it’s chime.
When the clock strikes midnight the revelers notice a new figure in the crowd, one who inspires fear and disgust in them. They believe the new figure is masked as a corpse who symbolizes the Read Death plague, but what they fail to realize is this is a victim slowly dying of the plague. The prince, enraged by the figure, orders that he be unmasked, but ignoring the prince the figure moves passed him, continuing through the chambers one by one. The prince, who is ashamed of his cowardice, draws his dagger and follows the plagued victim into the black chamber. As Prospero draws near to the figure it turns on him and the sight of the victim kills him. A surge of revelers rush the victim of plague, but they too die like the prince, their lives extinguished, symbolized by the expired flames of the tripods. The author wants the readers to understand that glory and riches cannot save you from death, which comes to us all.

It was 5:50 in the morning when my dad came in to my room and shook me awake. “It’s time to go.” He said. “This is already a bad idea.” I thought to myself. It was the second day and I was sore from the first. Still, I dragged myself from my bed, in my will to change I was able to soldier on. Dressed, I walked down stairs and put my shoes on. I also drank a cup of water, which always made me want to puke. “You never drink water in the morning.” I thought to myself.
We left our house and walked down the street to the hill that had always been my sworn enemy. I hated that hill with a passion, it was like that bully at school that I had never had. It taunted me constantly with is steep sides and slippery surface. Though I hated him, this bully of a hill was going to become my best friend, and I was determined to see it through to the end. At the sight of him I cringed but I continued on, by this time I was glad that I had gotten out of bed.
I was accompanied by my parents as we walked to the bottom of the hill. As we stretched at the bottom of the hill I felt a surge of energy and I quickly walked to the top. I was totally out of breath when I reached it and it was in that moment I realized how far I had let it slip. “How did I get so out of shape?” Then I had another epiphany. “This is why I am here, to make up for the poor choice I had made for so many years prior.” I walked back down to the bottom and this time attempted to run to the top. I made it, but it was very difficult.
I continued this walk run, walk run cycle twice more. And on the third run I got a little ahead of myself and I fell on the slippery road. I sat there no longer than two seconds but in that moment time froze. I was miserable, it was painful, and I had cut my hands on the road. I wanted to give up, throw in the towel, walk away. No, I had put up with this too long, I was here, and the hill wasn’t getting rid of me that easily. I jumped to my feet and ran all the way to the top just too once more walk down and run up for that final time, where I would leave it all on the hill, to get that exertion level of ten.
I learned two important lessons that day on the hill. The temptation to quit should never stop you from accomplishing your goals. I’m still working on those goals today, and I can say with some pride that I haven’t given up. The second lesson is to never let things like weight sneak up on you. I had always fooled myself into believing that it wasn’t that bad. I always told myself that I would deal with it later. It built up and still I ignored it, and my eyes were finally opened and I’m so thankful for that. It’s been ten months and twenty one pounds and still I’m fighting the battle, and I’m still winning.

Anger is pumping red
It overpowers like a storm (It’s over powering like a storm)
It smells of fresh blood
And tastes like rotten fruit vile and repulsive
Anger throbs, a monotonous beat, in your head over and over.

Should Wang Lung be so attached to his land that it is what drives him to continue on in his life? During this period in history land was perhaps the most precious commodity a man could possibly own. However different people believed that other things such as Jewellery, or Women were more important. I believe Wang Lung was justified in his love for the land that he owned.
The first reason for my belief is that the land is what Wang Lung gains his wealth and success from. He was able to buy a small plot of good land from a rich family in the town and build his wealth on the crops of this new land that was used in addition to the land inherited from his father. Of equal importance is the fact that the land is all he has ever known, Wang Lung is a farmer, not a rich lord. This is demonstrated throughout the book until the very last sentence. Furthermore his love for the land, which provides for him, never ceases throughout the entire book.
The second thought is land is the most secure possession a man can own. When Wang Lung leaves to go to the south for the winter he can rest assured his land won’t be moved when he gets back. In support of this, land can’t be moved from one place to another. Land also cannot be stolen from its owner without them knowing who has stolen it, if they know who stole the land they can take action against the person who committed the crime. Also, even in those days land was sold with deeds and if these were presented the land would always belong to the rightful owner.
Now that we have examined two reasons that justify Wang’s obsessive love for his land. Try to examine this problem from his point of view. Take another step and try to imagine yourself in his shoes. What is your favourite possession, how does it make you feel? Should Wang Lung be so attached to his land that it is the very centre of his life?

Fagan Kai

In The Last Sin Eater there seems to be two protagonists one of which is Fagan Kai, the other being Cadi Forbes. Fagan is a Major character who is seen throughout the book in multiple situations. By helping Cadi who is the main character he could be described as a supporting character.
Fagan Kai is a dynamic character who could easily be described as the hero from The Last
Sin Eater. We first encounter Fagan while he is fishing with Cullen and his annoying sister Glynnis. The way Cadi first reacts to Fagan gives the reader the impression that Fagan is adored by all the girls in the valley. Though this initial observation is never revealed or disproved throughout the book. It is revealed early on the Fagan is of the family Kai which is the most influential family in the Mountain community. It is also revealed that Fagan is smaller than his brothers and his father and takes after his mother.
Fagan is Dynamic and he changes from a curios, but cautious, character who knows very little about the place in which he lives. To a young man of God who is strong enough to stand against his father, and everyone in the valley, in the name of God. Fagan is revealed through a variety of ways including, through his actions, and what others think or say about him. The dialog between Cadi and Lilybet when Fagan is first seen in the book is an example of “what others think or say.” Fagan is trying to satisfy his own search for knowledge in the beginning of the book. But as he hears what the man of God has to say he begins to realize that he need to do Gods will and share his knowledge with the entire valley. Fagan seems to change from and erratic character in the beginning to a consistent character by the end. He is constantly trying to do God’s will by the end of the book. One of Fagan’s biggest virtues is persistence, he simply is never content to give up and the benefits are clearly shown by the end of the

book. Fagan’s biggest conflict is with his father who is backed by everyone of the valley except a handful of people. Fagan is a strong character who helps Cadi through thick and thin and he may just be the hero of the story.

Ghost Simon, Ralph, Jack, Kaden (me)

Kaden: Now that everyone is served, Jack can I ask you a question?
Jack: Whatever you say fatty. Snickering
Kaden: Anymore of that garbage and I’ll tell your school master. And you’ll get a good lashing! Now, how do you feel about taking part is Simons death?
Jack: That wasn’t Simon it was the beast in disguise, everyone knows that.
Kaden: Well, if that’s how feel about it I won’t argue with you. Now Simon will you please share with us what you discovered on the mountain upon ascending it?
Ghost Simon: I found your beast jack, but it was a human and adult, dead, He was a soldier and still strapped into his parachute.
Ralph: The parachute! That’s it, it was windy that night. That’s how it seemed to look up at us as we approached it.
Jack: It’s good none of the others found out or they wouldn’t have followed me, they would have continued to follow Ralph.
Ralph: Jack, you selfish piece of rubbish!!!! If they had found out Simon and Piggy would both still be alive!!!! Shouting
Kaden: Simon can you briefly describe your encounter as you descended the mountain?
Ghost Simon: I walked into a small clearing, and I met the lord of the flies. The pigs head, stuck on a sharp stick, there were flies everywhere. I have a seizure then and I passed out for a time. Then I continued down the mountain where I was attacked and killed, being mistaken for the beast.
Kaden: What made you climb the mountain and discover the truth?

Ghost Simon: I never believed in the beast, and I knew the fear of the unknown was tearing at the hearts of everyone on the island. So I climbed the mountain to find the knowledge that would end the fear. The fear was creating problems left and right, ultimately separating the group, and Jack couldn’t have control or people might die. And it was these things that encouraged me to climb the mountain.
Kaden: Thank you Simon for sharing, I think we all have a better understanding of the atmosphere on the island now. Now let’s back it up to the beginning, Ralph how did you feel when you first crashed on the island.
Ralph: I wasn’t scared; daddy is in the royal navy I knew we were going to get rescued. I thought if we had rules and we did stuff right no one would get hurt and we might even have a pleasant stay on the island.
Jack: I was excited to do adult things, like hunt, when we crashed on the island; I wanted to be leader as well so that I could push people around and stuff, though I didn’t tell anyone else about that reason.
Ralph: In the beginning, I thought you and I might be good friends, but you have a dark side and it came out clear on the island. You took my best friend when you created such intense rivalries on the island. I’ll never forgive you for what you did Jack Merridew.
Jack: Sucks to be you now, doesn’t it? I don’t care what happened to you or Piggy, that stupid fatty should have kept his mouth shut.
(Ralph gets to his feet and makes a dive for Jack both boys tussle on the floor and then are escorted from the building.)
Kaden: Simon, thank you for coming tonight, as far as I’m conserved you are the hero of the story, it’s too bad no one heard what you had to share.
Ghost Simon: Sometimes I ask myself, when will the world have its fill of blood? But thank you for having me here to share, the food was good to. Laughing
Kaden: Well, I try(laughing) have a good night Simon.

Is Wyoming the best state? Many people who have lived there miss it because of the beautiful landscape, and the sparse population. If you ever want you own space Wyoming is the place for you. Take my grandpa for example, he doesn’t like living in highly populated areas. He is originally from Minnesota, and when he visited Wyoming he fell in love with the landscape and space available.
Wyoming is the best state to live in. Wyoming, aside from beautiful landscape and a low population, also offers a large variety of outdoor activities of all kinds. In a poll taken Wyoming ranked third of all the states for outdoor activities available. From hunting or skiing to basketball or football, and sky diving, Wyoming has it all. Have you ever been interested in trying hunting? Wyoming is a great place to hunt; compared to many states Wyoming has very slack laws about hunting. Now is this a good or bad thing, I’ll let you be the judge of that.
So, what if you’re not the outdoorsy type? The truth is it really doesn’t matter; Wyoming is still a great place to live. In Wyoming there is absolutely no food tax. Doesn’t that just make life that much easier? Wyoming is also in a great position being directly below Montana. If you live in northern Wyoming you can often travel to Montana where there is no sales tax on anything. So you can save money just by living in Wyoming.
Now that we have examined some benefits about living in Wyoming I hope you are interested in visiting this state someday. While you are there try to do some fun outdoor activities, maybe go hiking or hunting, remember Wyoming has everything. So is Wyoming the best state?
